Abstract. The article examines the development of the situation in Syria in 2022. Under the influence of new processes in global politics, characterized by tough confrontation between Russia and the West, there has been a change in the position of a number of Arab countries on Syria. An analysis of these changes revealed a gradual restoration of economic ties between Syria and other countries in the Middle East. In particular, the work of the Arab pipeline, through which Egyptian gas was supplied to Lebanon through Syrian territory, was resumed, as well as the supply of electricity produced in Jordan using Egyptian gas to Lebanon. There is cooperation between Syria and Jordan in the field of security and water supply, and air and land communications have been established. The protracted destabilization in Syria has a negative impact on the situation throughout the region. Many Arab countries are expressing their readiness to restore relations with Damascus. The United Arab Emirates is calling for Syria to be restored to the Arab League, while Algeria, Iraq, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan support this idea. At the same time, the anti-Syrian package of sanctions adopted in the United States affects almost all spheres of the economy and life of Syria. It will make it much more difficult for Arab countries to cooperate with Damascus and force them to act more cautiously. The significance of the summit in the Astana format of Russia, Iran and Turkey, held in Tehran, for stabilizing the situation in Syria is considered. The situation in Syrian territories controlled by illegitimate foreign armed groups located here is shown. The main problems on the way to a Syrian settlement are identified, which are the actions of external actors who are illegitimately present in the Syrian Arab Republic and create the danger of disintegration of the country. The important role and influence of the outcome of the confrontation between Russia and the West on the resolution of the Syrian conflict, as well as on further global politics in general, is considered.
