Abstract. The article considers the phenomenon of democratic transit in the frameworks of political theory and real world practice. American global hegemony is presented in this article as a “force majeure factor” that impedes the success of democratic transitions in the non-Western world, and at the same time determines the neo-authoritarian regeneration of democracy in the United States itself, explains these processes for several key reasons based on the essential points of the works of leading political scientists regarding the state and prospects of democracy in the West today, primarily in the USA, and their forecasts and warnings, exploring democratic transitions and the relationship between democracy and authoritarianism, both in the interpretation of their opposition and their inevitable rapprochement. Firstly, this is the anti-statist orientation of globalization. Secondly, these are the actions of a hegemonic elite, inherited by the United States from the era of bipolar rivalry. Thirdly, this is the further strengthening of neo-authoritarian tendencies in the United States. Thus, indeed, if the tendency of confrontation between democracy and authoritarianism as a fundamental feature of the world order emerging at the beginning of the 21st century is finally broken, democratic transitions directed and patronized by such a force will not have the slightest chance of success, if consolidation is considered such full democracy.
